Does this turbinate reduction procedure look like a sub-mucous resection? (Photo)

Question

This surgery was named a turbinoplasty using a xomed shaver. No bone was removed but if resecting the soft tissue underneath how doesn't the bone get removed? Also is this a submucous resecion or is it closer to a patial turbinectomy (sectioning)?

If the Xomed microdebrider was used for the turbinate reduction, then the majority of what it accomplishes is removing erectile soft tissue within the turbinate that prevents them from swelling and becoming as large as before. There is a very thin bone within the turbinate as well, which can be also be minimized with this device in the process but that is not the purpose. This bone is typically addressed by out-fracturing the bone gently with another instrument to open up the airway after Xomed is used. I hope this helps answer the question for you.
