Hi! This spring I lost sections of hair and got diagnosed with alopecia areata. After 4 months hair started to grow back. The section is now full with hair. But now to my question, i'm interesed to use dermal fillers in my lips. But it's not recommended if you have autoimmune disease. Why is it not recommended?will I lose my hair or how will it affect me? I also have hypothyroidism Kind regards /Sara

Hi,

	As an instructor for both Allergan and Medicis I do a ton of injections and teach injections.  I have come across many scenarios including patients with various forms of autoimmune disease such as SLE or R.A..  Typically I ask the patient's rheumatologist to chime in and send a letter to clear the patient.  Almost always the Rheumatologists have no problem with Restylane or Juvederm.  However I have seen cases of off and on redness or inflammation around the fillers in some of such patients.  Its not a clear cut yes or no but you can explore it with your doctors.
