Hey I am a 24 year old man who has been taking finasteride for 6 months without sides, and seen good results. However, I feel I should take Dut 0,5 mg ED instead because it promises superior results. What do you guys think? I want to maximize chances of regrowth especially at the hairline. What has scared me off is some studies suggest that Dut increases insuline resistance and NAFLD. Can I counteract this with a healthy lifestyle? Also how much bigger is the risk of gyno compared to fin 1 mg?
Answer: Switching from Finasteride to Dutasteride I have never seen any studies that directly compare the effects of Finasteride compared to Dutasteride. Keep in mind that the prevention of hair loss with those medications are only claimed to take place in the mid scalp and crown areas. Although I have had patients who really thought they also helped in the frontal/hairline area too.

Answer: Dutasteride vs. Finasteride? Englewood Cliffs New Jersey In my opinion, since you are experiencing very few side effects with finasteride, you should continue with this drug.. You are correct that the incidence of fatty liver and insulin resistance are associated with dutasteride.Lifestyle changes can improve the incidence. In clinical trials the difference between responses of dutasteride and finasteride for most was minimal. If you are interested in improving your hairline, I would suggest adding PRP to your treatment program and avoiding the risk of additional side effects. Good luck.Jeff Rapaport MDRealself All-star

Answer: Should I switch to dutasteride For a healthy 24 year old male, insulin resistance is not a major concern. Nor is NAFLD. I would recommend having a good discussion with your doctors about the risks of dutasteride in young men. Fertility issues are important as dutasteride rarely has beem reported to have more detrimental long term effects on sperm than finasteride. Any young male thinking of dutasteride in my practice is asvised to have a baseline sperm count. I don’t start dutasteride in subfertile males.

Answer: Dutasteride vs finasteride Dutasteride has a risk of sterility that has not been reported with finasteride and considering that you have good results with finasteride, I would not suggest that you switch
