Can I take steri strips off myself? I’m 12 days post op.

Question

My PS told me to let the steri strips fall off on their own but pieces came loose in the shower so I peeled it and had to force some pieces. Now they are all off. It stung a little when I peeled them off and around my nipples seems less healed than other places. Did I do more harm than good?

I really wouldn't worry about it very much.  Steri strips typically fall off in a week or so, but sometimes stay around longer.  They are only intended to reinforce the closure and don't really enhance your outcome.  Taking them off when they are a little stubborn is fine.  I'm sure your end result will be the same either way.Good Luck!

Steri-strips can be stubborn to remove.  If 6 or so days have elapsed since your surgery, the natural body oils and a warm shower should make them easier to remove.  As the edges curl up, snip them off; and the strip could continue to curl and be easier to remove. It's best to check with your surgeon regarding cleaning the incisions and whether the nipples have healed.
