I have these scars from self harm that are 2 years old. Would silicone treatment help flatening them or making them less noticeable? If not the what should i use?
Answer: Scar treatment Dear raul1997,based on your description, it would be best that you visit your plastic surgeon for an in person examination. This way, your surgeon can assess your scars properly and determine the best course of action to address and resolve your concerns. Answer: Old White Scars May Improve With Microneedling Combined With Topical Tyrosine & Lanatoprost Unfortunately, without photos, I can just comment in only the most general terms. Although the use of silicone gel sheeting is a simple, and often recommended approach to treating scars, I have seldom found its use to be of any real, significant value--even when used religiously. Mature scars, i.e. those older than three months, typically turn an off-white or ivory color, which can be difficult to treat. Your question suggests that unsightly elevation is present in addition to the undesirable coloration. If this is indeed so, then I would consider the simple use of intralesional anti-inflammatory injections, in particular triamcinolone, to first flatten the scars. Once done, one might consider the simple and relatively inexpensive approach of using medical microneedling combined with pigmentation enhancers, such as topical tyrosine and lanatoprost, in an attempt to improve the hypopigmentation and blend the treatment areas better with the surrounding normal skin. You would do well to consult with a board certified aesthetic physician with experience and expertise in all forms of scar treatments. Best of luck to you.
