Re. Canthal Webbing after upper eye lid surgery. (photo)

Question

I got an infected stitch in my left eye which took 10 days to heal. Now I´m left with extreme webbing which I have been massaging with Dermatix. It´s brought some results but is also irritating the lumpy scar above the corner of the eye. Should I carry on massaging nevertheless or should I leave it to settle down on its own? I´m 6 and a half weeks post op. Will my eye ever be normal again?

Unfortunately this can result in less than idea wound healing.  TIme is probably the most effect tool in letting the eyelid settle down.  Depending on precisely what is going on with the eyelid, it is possible that steroids injection of 5-FU injection may be helpful.  Please recognize that even these treatments have potential negative side effects.  For this reason, simpler measures such as observation and lid massage may be the treatmented recommended by your surgeon.  Generally tissues are allowed to heal for a full 6 to 12 months before deciding if a scar revision is necessary.  In many cases issue like the one you are experiencing improve over such a time frame.

The type of web you describe occasionally occurs with upper lid surgery. I agree with the recommendation for waiting and massaging the area.  If it doesn't resolve it may eventually need a revision, which can be done under local anesthesia and should take about five minutes.

You have developed a raised scar in the medial lid.  This can occur after any surgery, and especially after having an infected wound.  It will slowly resolve with time - you can use warm compresses and massage.  I will often inject the area with steroid and 5-FU which can more rapidly soften and flatten the scar.  You should discuss this with  your surgeon.
