Is swelling normal after drain removal?

Its been exactly 2 weeks since my tt. My ps removed my drain today (thank the Lord) but now my stomach is swollen so bad. It feels and looks like I have gas. Is this normal? Will it go down? I really cant think of getting another drain now having fluid removed via needle.

It typically takes several days for the abdomen to increase in size if fluid is building up under your skin. And typically most TT patients are quite bloated after surgery, particularly with muscle repair. That can last up to a year. Watch your diet - reduce salt and fat - and walk. Physical activity helps work the gas out. And definitely contact your plastic surgeon - you may want to visit if you have concerns.

Based on your descriptions, you possibly have a seroma build up. It would be best to schedule an appointment with your surgeon for an in-person examination.

Without seeing you it is hard to say. If you feel a fluid shift like a water bed type of effect, then you may need to have fluid drained. More than likely it is just swelling.

Thank you for your question.  I would suggest you call your plastic surgeon now.  You may have a seroma- collection of fluid.   If it is a seroma, serial drainage may treat it,  or you may need another drain.   Call your surgeon now to be seen.  Best wishes.

You can have swelling after a drain removal. However, it is important that you schedule a follow up appointment sooner rather than later to look at your abdomen because of your increased swelling.
