Hi, I'm getting cheek fillers today. 9 days ago I had a surgical tooth extraction upper molar with stitches in my gum. The stitches are just about dissolved now, and the swelling has subsided, the area is still a little tender but not painful, I'm I safe to go ahead with HA derma cheek fillers?

Thanks for your question. In my opinion, you should be able to have the fillers after 9 days as long as you're recovered. However, you may want to check in with your oral surgeon and/or injector beforehand. They can best advise you.

Hello.  Though the dental work is far from your cheeks, there is the potential for swelling from dental work to go into cheek areas.  Additionally, the mouth is not a sterile environment; it's possible (but rare) that some contamination of your facial planes may have occurred.  Personally, I would feel more comfortable injecting your cheeks at least two weeks.  Filler injections are cosmetic treatments intended to improve your facial features---it would be very frustrating to get an infectious complication that could have been minimized if you had waited.  Take care.

The sutures  most Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons use are either gut or chromic gut sutures which typically dissolve anywhere between 5-14 days.  In my experience once the sutures have dissolved the surgical site has developed a healthy level of healing.  HA cheek fillers should not interfere with the healing of an extraction socket as long as the filler is not placed directly into that site.  Most cheek fillers would be placed into the zygoma (cheek bone) which is substantially higher than the alveolus of the maxilla (upper jaw).

Thanks for your question. As long as there is not any swelling from the dental procedure, you should be able to have the cheek filler injections. If there is swelling present, it would be harder to evaluate contours and safe placement of the filler.  Best!

Yes, you can have fillers 9 days after a tooth extraction. These fillers (Voluma, Radiesse, Bellafill) and Sculptra are good for augmenting the cheeks. Implants or fat are permanent alternatives. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Based on the information that you have presented, I would say that you have progressed and are recovering well from the extraction. It is safe to have check filler placement. I would suggest however that you call your dental office to get the final approval.

From what you are describing about your tooth extraction, I think it would be fine to have hyaluronic acid fillers in the cheeks 9 days after the tooth procedure.  Ultimately, it would be the decision of the physician treating you with the cheek filler though, so it would be best to check with them.

Recent studies are showing that injections of hylaruonic acid fillers within 3months of a surgical procedure and/or dental extraction can lead to an increased risk of granuloma formation. Best to wait.
