What can be done about skin texture and color after laser tattoo removal? (Photos)

Question

I have had a tattoo removed with laser treatment and what is left is a bumpy texture with light lines that look like scarring (hypopigmentation?). I’ve completed my last treatment months ago now and am very glad the tattoo is gone but what is left is a raised light shadow of the original tattoo. I am looking for suggestions of what could help my skin look more normal in color and smooth in texture.

Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to discuss the best treatment options for your type of skin. .

I recommend following up with your Doctor for a formal evaluation and after care. We use a specific protocol of exfoliation, hydration, and moisturizing along with protection after laser treatments. PDT therapy can calm any inflammation. I always combine lasers with microneedling/prp to get more of an outcome. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

There are many things that can be done to improve the texture of the skin after tattoo removal.  Laser resurfacing and microneedling with PRP are appropriate procedures to improve skin texture..  You should discuss your concerns with your provider who can best advise you.
