At 5 days post-dermabrasion, is it too early to tell that there is no improvement from the procedure?

At 5 days post-dermabrasion, is it too early to tell that there is no improvement from the procedure? My scars are as noticeable as they were before. I am hoping that, maybe, I'm still healing and the skin is still regenerating? Should I already see some improvements by now?

Thank you for your question. Many patients may experience redness and swelling immediately after a dermabrasion procedure, but it typically subsides after a few days. You might be given an ointment to place on the treated area for several weeks following the procedure. Most likely, at 5 days after dermabrasion, there is a lot of swelling--and healing to be done--at the treatment site.  In fact, it is quite reasonable to see continued improvement for months after dermabrasion treatment.  You would do best to follow your treating physician's post-operative instructions, and check in with him/ her about your concerns.  Good luck in your recovery!
