my dentist said I needed an implant and there were no other choices except a bridge I went for a second opinion and was told that the roots were well preserved and the remaining tooth was in gr eat condition and I could have root canal post and crown. Is this a common mistake with dentists. have a flipper I wont be able to use
Answer: Need more data Without a photo and at minimum an xray, it is impossible to share an opinion. While some dentists say what people want to hear, the durability (longevity of use) is often in question. Can something be put on a tooth long enough to get to your car? Sometimes. Will it be worth the $$ for how long you get to use it? Not sure.

Answer: Implant or root canal and bridge Wow, you ask a great question. There is an ongoing debate in dentistry as to what is best for the patient- implant or root canal and crown. If you have a broken tooth say on #10 the question is it better for you in the long term to extract and place an implant/crown, or do a root canal, place a post, and then crown. So, you happened to find 2 dentists who have differing opinions. Remember, every dentist has different experiences which leads them to the decisions that they make for their patients.Having said that, my question for you is how old are you? If you are in your 50's on up then a well placed implant and crown will give you great longevity. I would advise that you select carefully as to the surgeon who will place this implant. Implants in the smile zone require considerable expertise in placement. It is best if you will have the tooth extracted and implant placed at the time of extraction with a temporary crown. You will maintain the gum tissue much better. Not every dentist can do this. Select wisely. Now if you are younger than 50 then a root canal and crown may be the best choice as the lifespan of a root canal is in the 10-20 year range. Remember, we are living to 85+ years. When the tooth fails then you will be old enough to do an implant. I do believe that implants will outlast root canals but implants can have bone loss which can cause gum recession and then expose the implant. If this happens in your smile zone, you won't be happy.Sorry to talk your ear off but this is vital information for you to understand and make the best decision for you.

Answer: Lost crown Dentist may have different opinions when it comes to treatment options. This difference could be due to the training they have. Some dentists take advanced training that helps them keep teeth for patients. Without a clinical exam and X-rays it is difficult to give you an accurate assessment. You can go for a third opinion. A Pankey trained dentist has advanced training and may help you understand your situation and what the treatment options are and why one is better then the other. You can find a Pankey trained dentist in your area. Hope this helps! Good Luck!
