Hello Loveandpeace0, and thank you for your question about Silikon 1000 and its long-term risks.Silikon 1000 is a permanent filler made from medical-grade liquid silicone. While it is marketed for subtle and precise augmentation, its permanence comes with significant long-term risks that can emerge years or even decades after injection. These risks arise because silicone cannot be metabolized or dissolved by the body, and once injected, it remains embedded in the tissues indefinitely. One of the primary concerns with Silikon 1000 is migration. Over time, the silicone can move away from the injection site, causing deformities or asymmetry. This is especially problematic in areas with high mobility, such as the lips, or delicate structures like the nose.Another major risk is the development of scar tissue and nodules. Silicone often triggers the body’s immune response, leading to the formation of hard lumps or fibrotic tissue. These nodules can become larger and more noticeable over time, sometimes causing pain or visible irregularities.Additionally, there is a risk of chronic inflammation and delayed hypersensitivity reactions, even years after the initial injection. In severe cases, complications such as tissue necrosis (death of tissue) or systemic issues like ASIA syndrome (Autoimmune Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants) can occur, causing widespread symptoms like joint pain, fatigue, and swelling. If complications arise, the only way to address them is through surgical removal, which can be invasive and disfiguring. For example, removing silicone from the lips often requires excising the affected tissue, which may permanently alter the shape or size of the lips. In other areas, such as the face, removal may involve procedures like a facelift incision to access and extract the material, leaving scars and potential contour irregularities. While Silikon 1000 can appear to deliver stable results initially, its long-term risks far outweigh the benefits. Safer alternatives, such as temporary fillers like hyaluronic acid products, provide predictable and reversible results without the complications associated with permanent fillers. I hope this helps clarify the potential dangers of Silikon 1000 and why it is not a recommended option for most patients.Sincerely,J. Timothy Katzen, MD
Microdroplet Silikon1000 may be the safest, most versatile, and precise permanent filler. Nodules, bumps, visible product, and overcorrection may occur with Silikon1000, but necrosis NEVER happens. Nodules, bumps, visible product, and overcorrection may also occur with temporary fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra, and others. Temporary gel filler treatments have a small risk of skin necrosis and blindness if there is blood vessel occlusion or vascular embolization to the central retinal artery. The size of a Silikon1000 molecule is smaller than a red blood cell, and it's liquid property makes it safer than temporary fillers, in many instances. Silikon1000 is irremovable, so your results, good or bad, are permanent. There is a steep learning curve to performing serial puncture, microdroplet treatments, so the expertise of your doctor is imperative. Hope this helps. Dr Joseph
I have a large series of patients who have undergone removal of silicone. Long term granulomas are common with these injections and removal is key. Best, Dr. KaramanoukianRealself100 Surgeon
Thank you for this excellent question. The use of Silikon 1000 is controversial and this material is not approved by the FDA as a dermal filler. Because of this, and because some doctors have said that they have seen bad outcomes, the use of Silikon 1000 as a filler is not uniformly accepted. Personally, I have used it for well over ten years and I have not seen the results that others claim to have. I trained with a physician who had used it for over forty years who said the same thing. In my experience, Silikon 1000 is almost an ideal dermal filler with long-lasting, if not permanent results.
The truth about Silikon-1000 is that it is a remarkable product. It has been extraordinarily successful with virtually no significant complications for over 60 years. My comments are addressed to its use in the nose. There is very little long-term risk. It would be very unusual to have a long-term reaction to it. It is not that it cannot happen, but in the world of medicine nothing is 100% successful but this comes very close.
Injectable microdroplet silicone has been used safely for permanent nonsurgical rhinoplastic treatments for well over 50 years. It may be helpful for improving nasal symmetry, and restoring nasal volume especially after multiple rhinoplasties. We have not seen constant inflammation in any of our...
Hello simoned2, and thank you for your question about removing Silikon 1000 and the concerns you’re experiencing. The issues you describe—one cheek becoming larger and creating wrinkles under your eyes—are unfortunately common with permanent fillers like Silikon 1000. Silicone and other perma...
