If a hair follicle is permanently damaged from IPL treatments, is a facial hair transplant the only way to restore hair growth?
Answer: Does IPL cause facial hair loss? Thank you for your question. IPL treatments target pigment so in turn target hair follicles as well. This should have been explained to you prior to your treatments. Consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for your best treatment options..

Answer: IPL IPL has the ability to remove hair. Therefore, it’s best to avoid hair-bearing areas of the face if facial hair loss is unwanted.

Answer: IPL and hair loss The main thing to consider before you start your treatment is to have a consult with a reputable dermatologist/facial/plastic surgeon. My practice has been considered by Lumenis lasers to be a Lumenis laser center of excellence and I have been a "Luminary" (Lumenis physician teacher) for the last 10 years. Not many physicians have these recognitions. I also help develop and teach my own Rosacea and Melasma protocols for the Lumenis IPL systems to other physicians and technicians. The correct answer to your question is yes. IPL devises can hurt or damage hair follicles. Many IPL devises can be used for hair removal depending on the filter and energy that is utilized. Without photos is very difficult also to asses your problem. My recommendation would be to wait 4-6 months to see if the hair grows back. If it does not, then consider options to see how you can solve this problem.Hope this helps,Dr. Gus Diaz

Answer: Does IPL cause facial hair loss We used to use IPL for laser hair removal about 10 years ago but have since moved toward Alexandrite and Diode lasers because they work more effectively and efficiently. With that being said, it is still possible for IPL to permanently damage a hair follicle and prohibit it from growing hair. If you have areas you wish to remain capable of growing hairs, then do not treat those areas with IPL (such as a beard area for a man). "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, but only opinion. Seek in-person treatment with a trained medical professional for appropriate care."
