Hello, I am now almost 8 months post op from rhinoplasty. I have a callus forming on my left bridge that hurts to the touch, and the tip is still very swollen and hard. I accidentally pushed my nose putting makeup on and it was uncomfortable. It feels, at 8 months post op, that I am so far behind in the healing process than is to be expected. I never touch my nose for fear of causing problems or pain, but even small touches are not comfortable. How long can I expect to be this fragile?

How much longer will your nose be “fragile”? It is common for the nose to be a little more tender to firm touch than average after rhinoplasty particularly in the bridge and the tip This sensitivity should diminish overtime but many patients say there remains some sensitivity if they bump their nose even after several months. This however does not mean that the nose is fragile in the sense that light or moderate touch or even bumping it will “damage“ it. It may be painful to bump your nose, but it would take quite a significant trauma to actually damage it at this point. If this however does not subside you should let your surgeon check it to make sure there is not any unusual inflammation making the nose more sensitive than average.
