As noted already, if
you are talking about spots on your upper back and shoulder regions
predominantly, with a slight scale associated with them, we call this tinea
versicolor, which is a superficial fungus infection that is commonly seen in
dermatologist’s offices. The interesting thing with this particular fungus is
that it is a normal skin fungus, we all have it, and for various reasons, grows
beyond its borders in some causing a skin rash. It is usually never on the
face. Using Selsun Blue over the counter can help, but occasionally you need to
see a dermatologist who can prescribe either pills and/or topical prescription
medication to get things back to normal.

It sounds like you are taking of the yeast infection tinea versicolor (also know as pityriasis versicolor).  This condition is related to dandruff and is caused by normal yeast that live on our skin.  It is characterized by lighter, darker and pink scaly macules usually on the neck, chest, and upper back.  The areas characteristically don't tan and therefore are more pronounced when a person goes in the sun.  They can be treated with selenium sulfide or may require a prescription antifungal medication (topical or oral).
