What exactly is involved in debriding after sinus surgery, turbinate reduction, and Septoplasty?

It has been 8 weeks since having these surgeries and I am still getting large crusts with blood. I have seen mention of debriding for several visits after these surgeries. What exactly is debriding and how is it performed?

Patients who are experiencing crusting, drainage, bleeding and discomfort after nasal and sinus surgery often benefit from physician cleaning in the clinic while awake. Debridement usually involves your physician suctioning and cleaning your nose after topical decongestants and anesthesia. There maybe some temporary discomfort, but most patients tolerate debridement well and feel much better afterwards. Sometimes an endoscope and special suction/ debridement instruments are used to help your doctor clean your nose. Typically, this is a routine part of your recovery. Once your crusts, clots and scabs have been removed, the inside of your nose/sinus should heal better. Some patients require multiple office debridements. Sometimes nasal irrigations can help prevent recurrent scabs and crusts. Your physician can help guide you to the best care recommendations.
