Patients who are experiencing crusting, drainage, bleeding and discomfort after nasal and sinus surgery often benefit from physician cleaning in the clinic while awake. Debridement usually involves your physician suctioning and cleaning your nose after topical decongestants and anesthesia. There maybe some temporary discomfort, but most patients tolerate debridement well and feel much better afterwards. Sometimes an endoscope and special suction/ debridement instruments are used to help your doctor clean your nose. Typically, this is a routine part of your recovery. Once your crusts, clots and scabs have been removed, the inside of your nose/sinus should heal better.
