Motiva textured implants vs smooth. Does all Motiva textured implants have a silk surface?

I'm getting motiva textured implants. Do the textured ones have a silk surface? I think that's what I'm getting. I've heard textured implants cause an immune response and inflammation because they rub since they are rough. But a capsule eventually grows over it anyway?Motiva textured ones aren't apparently rough, plus they have a reduced risk than smooth implants for capsule contractor and inflammation. So doesn't motiva textured become the same risks as smooth but surely still not MORE at risk.

Motiva implants have a very finely "textured" surface; about 4 microns which makes them feel like velvet.  Since 2010 there are no reports of them causing BIA-ALCL and the FDA approved them recently.  The data suggests they resist capsular contracture making them useful for subfascial and subglandular uses.

Thank you for your question.  Motiva implants have a 4 micron surface called SmoothSilk.  It is designed to be a more biocompatibe surface and results in less inflammation and fibrosis than either standard smooth or macrotextured implants.  That does correlate with a very low capsular contracture risk.   Technically, any implant with a surface height of less than 10 microns is considered smooth, even though they look a bit textured, so you can consider them a smooth implant.  There have been zero cases of BIA-ALC with SmoothSilk implants with more than 4 million devices over 10 years - this is the lymphoma that can form around more vigorously textured implants.  The only additional risk vs traditional smooth implants is that the Motiva implants do result in a very thin capsule, so surgeons must be very precise when creating the pocket in the breast or you can end up with a malposition.  They are excellent implants.

Hi from Istanbul!Thank you for your question.Motiva implants are nano-surface implants, the surface is not in the textured group, it is in the smooth surface group. All of the implants will lead to a capsular tissue around of them and you will have a tiny layer of capsular tissue with Motiva implants due to the nano surface technology.The capsular contracture and rupture rate is so low with Motiva rather than other implants. Textured implants may cause capsular contracture more than smooth implants.Best Luck!
