Hi, I got a wrist tattoo a few weeks ago. It's all black and about 2 inches by 6 inches. I am regretting it now because my family would be really disappointed in me. I really want to get rid of it. I can't stop crying thinking about my parents disappointment. Also, I have keloidal scaring tendencies. I know I am not the best candidate for laser removal but would it be possible to get it done with no or minimal scarring. how much could I pay to expect a really good job but not be cheated?

Hi PrettyPreeti.  The cost of laser tattoo removal is going to vary from practice to practice.  For your tattoo, we would probably charge around $275 per visit and estimated 6-12 visits.  One important task in choosing a practitioner for laser tattoo removal is to find out what kind of equipment they use and how they do the treatment.  If blistering and pinpoint bleeding are common with the technology they use and the way they do the treatments, then you should stay away.  The technique should allow for the practice to approach the removal of the tattoo in a safe AND effective way by not causing blistering or scabbing that can lead to permanent scarring.

	The key issue regarding keloids is partly that you are prone to them, but more so that the practitioner does not cause a lot of dermal disruption like bleeding during treatment as this will increase the likelihood of scarring.  We would also not opt for the R20 method as this increases the chance of scarring.

	A slower more methodical approach to the process leads to higher cost for you, but ultimately less risk of scarring.  Good luck.

Your tattoo can be removed safely and effectively treated. Keloidal scarring is not likely to occur and is quite rare. Newer tattoos of only  a few weeks duration will likely take longer to respond, however, the newer PicoSure laser works best in these situations.

Tattoos that are black like yours and shaded like yours have been responding very well to laser removal. I really haven't seen scarring occurring with laser removal if it is done with a reputable physician who has been doing removal for a while because the newer lasers are powerful and fast and break up the ink without damaging the skin. The newest Picosure laser has been clearing tattoos in my office in about half the treatments of previous lasers. Costs vary by doctor but expect to pay around $1200-$1800 for removal.
