Removal for Dark Scars Left by Folliculitis?

Question

I am a 25-year-old Asian male who has been diagnosed with folliculitis on my neck. I do not shave my neck, but get large pimple-like bumps that will leave me with dark scars. I will have 5-12 at different times on both sides. I have been given several oral antibiotics, steroid creams, and tried laser treatment. Nothing has helped. I am very self-conscious of this. Was I misdiagnosed? Will the scars fade? What else could be done?

Folliculitis can cause PIH and hyperpigmentation. I would recommend Melarase AM and Melarase PM followed by Melapads. Use for at least 2-3 months.

Daily sun protection and application of prescription strength bleaching cream under supervision of a board-certified dermatologist are important part of therapy for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Ethnic skin such as Hispanic or Asian skin is more prone to PIH. It is critical that underlying etiology or the inciting triggers be dealt with early on (e.g. aggressive treatment of acne, minimize trauma from overly aggressive skin manipulation).
