Dislike square jawline - how can I non-surgically achieve a more heart-shaped face? (photos)

Question

I want a more heart-shaped face. I am happy with the fullness of my face, but I just hate how square my jawline is. Will cheek filler make my lower face appear slimmer? I do not want any surgery yet. Thank you.

Hello, my name is Dr. Burko and I am a Plastic Surgeon at SY Aesthetics in NYC. Fillers can be used to augment the face in multiple anatomic areas. It is hard to say with only a front photo what your cheeks look like. Typically, I assess the face from multiple angles to point out to patient's what I am seeing. My recommendation is for you to see a trained plastic surgeon who can make their best assessment and offer you their customized treatment plan.

For a more defined jawline to strengthen your profile (and help prevent the dreaded jawline "jowl" sagging), we use injectable fillers like Revanesse Versa - a filler known to limit swelling and give subtle, soft enhancements - or Radiesse. Using a cannula to limit pain and swelling, we inject on the bone in strategic points to get more lift and shaping, resulting in a more contoured lower face and defined, structured jawline. Hi there and thank you for your question! Putting some cheek filler on the lateral side of your face can cause more projection to make your lower face appear more slim. We would have to see your side profile as well, but sometimes filler in the chin area can help make the jawline look more elongated and create the appearance of a heart shaped face. Typically we will either use Juvederm Voluma or Juvederm Volux for the cheek and chin area. Hope this helps!

There are a few treatments you can seek to slim and narrow the lower third of the face. A provider can assess if you are a candidate for botox to the masseters to narrow the width of the lower third, relative to the width of your cheeks. Secondly, filler can be used in the prejowl sulcus to minimize the appearance of jowling laterally (creates a softer, continuous transition between the chin and descended tissue). Finally, you may look for a skin tightening treatment (RF microneedling, lasers, ultherapy, etc.) to improve tissue laxity in this region.
