#TummyTuck: how long is the surgery?Depending on your size and weight and need for liposuctionThe operation usually is 2 to 2 1/2 hoursAsk for "No Drains, Pain Less" procedure with Exparel
Good question! It can vary from doctor to doctor as each has a certain different technique - such as combining a little liposuction, using progressive tension sutures, tightening the abdominal wall, or fixing small hernias. However the biggest factor is each patient's particular anatomy and issues. Some patients may need a mini tuck while others need a full tuck. Many patients have a weakened abdominal wall (diastasis recti) or hernias that need to be fixed as well. A larger torso will take longer to perform vs a smaller torso. Each patient has a different amount of loose abdominal skin/tissue, those who have a signifcant amount will add time to the procedure. With that being said, a mini-tuck will take about 1-2 hours to complete, a full-tuck will take about 3-4 hours to complete for the average patient with moderate amount of work to be done. I wouldn't fixate too much on the time, as the most important factor is a good plastic surgeon, who does good work, and who you get along with. This really varies from doctor to doctor. I usually always advise the liposuction the flank to achieve a tight waist-line and to enhance the buttock shape. To achieve this the patient must be turned side to side. This will take about 5 hours. If a waist enhancement procedure is done then it takes a little longer. Try not to focus on OR time but quality. Good luck.
The right answer to this question is a tummy tuck should take just long enough to do every single necessary element to give each individual patient the best tummy tuck possible. Some plastic surgeons, by their nature, operate extremely fast and yet get everything done correctly. Some surgeons, by their nature, go slower. Both are correct if the surgeon is a Board Certified plastic surgeon with years of experience and history of great results. In my surgery center in Honolulu, the average tummy tuck takes approximately 3 hours, but time is less important than quality of work. Choose your plastic surgeon well, do your due diligence, and then allow the plastic surgeon to take as much or as little time as he or she deems necessary to give you an outstanding result (a great looking belly button, well repaired muscle separation, very tight skin, and a scar that is low, thin and as long as it needs to be to leave no dog ears).
It entirely depends on the patient and the surgeon. Some surgeons are slower that others, some are a great deal faster. If the tummy tuck is on a larger patient, then it may require more time.I would not focus entirely on the length of the procedure unless you were combining multiple procedures together, then I feel that the time and length of the procedure would matter. What is more important is the quality of the end result. How does the scar look? How does the belly button look? Is the scar placed low enough? It the waist better defined? Is the abdomen flattened? Those are some of the things to look for and obviously find a board certified plastic surgeon who has a great deal of experience in the procedure.Good luck.
Dear jjd1The length of surgery is not as important as the quality of result. Your first concern should be quality of your surgeon. Beyond that, too slow a procedure increases risks of infection and preioperative complications such wound healing issues and deep vein thrombosis. The Average tummy tuck with all the components should be around 2 to 2.5 hours. The larger and taller the patient, the longer the procedure. A surgeon that takes over 4.5-5 hours would be considered unusually slow and a discussion of why would be worthwhile. In my practice, the average tummy tuck with flank liposuction has an average surgical time of 2 hours.Look for experienced and properly trained surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. See more than one consult and make a well informed decision.
Most tummy tuck surgeries can be completed in about 2 to 2 and one half hours. This depends on the size of the patient and the need for liposuction of the flanks (love handles). Some smaller patients can be done in under 2 hours and some larger patients may take closer to 3 hrs. Best wishes,Dr.Bruno
The length of tummy tuck surgery would depend of what and how much is involved in your surgery. Standard tummy tuck would include removal of skin, tightening (plication of muscles) and conservative liposuction. Every of these components is variable from patient to patient and may take more or less time to complete. Length of surgery may be between 2-5 hours. However, length of surgery should not be much of concern providing that your expectations are reached. Select your plastic surgeon based on reputation and quality of results rather than length of time he spends to perform surgery. Good luck.
The amount of time depends on the size of the pannus being removed. Also the need to repair fascia defects, hernias, and rectus diastasis must be considered.
First, you're going to be put under anesthesia, then you'll have liposuction on waist, flanks, upper and lower back + BBL if you want it in the package, and last but not less important, the tummy tuck with muscle repair. If you have everything together, surgery takes less than 4 hours.
