How is HIFU different than Ulthera or ThermiTight?

Question

The doctor I spoke with says that the results are more pronounced, and less risk of side effects. It's also a newer technology than Ulthera and Thermitight. How do the technologies differ, and what are the pros and cons of each one?

Thank you for your question. HIFU stands for high intensity focused ultrasound, which is the technology employed by the Ulthera device. This treatment works on the outer surface of the skin, delivering ultrasound energy to heat the lower dermal layers. The heat constricts tissue and stimulates collagen production for natural, long-lasting results. Ulthera is a popular choice for firming up areas of the face where skin laxity has become an issue. 
ThermiTight uses radiofrequency energy, delivered deeper into the dermal tissue via tiny probes. The process is similar as the heat from the device constricts tissue and triggers the body to produce more collagen. However, ThermiTight’s ability to work deeper usually means more dramatic results. If you work with a board-certified dermatologist with expertise in both these procedures, your doctor should be able to customize your treatment plan to ensure the best possible results.

Hifu stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound which is what is used in ultherapy devices. Thermitight uses radiofrequency. Usually a combination approach is needed to get the best outcomes. Ultherapy is a great treatment, but works best in combination with other treatments like lasers, RF treatments, microneedling/PRP or sculptra to get increased collagen, tightening and improve skin tone.  I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
