Is buccal fat removal worth it? Is it going to create loose skin and sag where the fat is taken out? Is it going to make me look gaunt in 20 years? Or is something else like cheek filler or tightening a better way to do it. I'm a mid 30s female looking to improve facial contour, get more of an egg shape. Would also like more sculpted and prominent cheekbones. Thanks!

Answer: There is no anatomical connection between the skin and buccal fat Hi, thanks for your question. There is no anatomical connection between the skin and buccal fat. With age, skin descends as our collagen transforms and as gravity weathers its effects. For your second question, buccal fat removal will give you a gaunt appearance- is true to an extent. However, it is not true for everyone; we all progressively gain weight throughout our lives until our metabolism hits a point where there is no longer weight gain. All this depends upon gender, genetics, and most importantly ethnicity. Being in mid 30s makes you an ideal candidate for buccal fat removal, you can look skinnier. The buccal fat removal does not make up the entirety of the volume of the face. The procedure will gently define the lower border of your cheeks and make your face look thinner. Consult an experienced plastic surgeon in-person for a detailed discussion to ensure positive results.
