My insurance requires a 400 gram reduction (per breast) and I was wondering what that translates to. I know that cup sizes aren’t a reliable source of measurement so I was wondering how many grams would need to be removed to get from the first two pictures (me) to the last (desired size). Is it more or less than 400 grams? Thank you!

Answer: No one can tell you exactly what cup size you will be following a reduction as breasts vary widely by density and if you have light fluffy breasts, more tissue will have to be removed versus having dense tissue to meet minimums. But your goal looks like B cups so you can ask your surgeon to be aggressive, do the normal job (usually a C+ cup results) or take off the minimums to meet the insurance requirements. From your goal, I would think a more aggressive resection is needed. Also ask you surgeon if they can do anything to help keep some upper pole fullness when you are done... otherwise you will have a concave, ski slope upper pole as you do right now.

Answer: 400 gm breast reduction result? It is truly impossible to say based solely on photos. Some women have very large breasts which are mostly composed of fat, which does not weigh much. Other women, have more dense fibroglandular breast tissues which are considerably heavier. Your Plastic Surgeon should be able to give you a reasonable estimate based upon his/her experience. But, this is only an estimate. The actual amount of breast tissue to be removed must be determined by your surgeon at the time of the procedure, depending upon the needs at that time. All of that being said. I do believe that your 'goal photos' are realistic, and should be obtainable given your present breast shape. As always, best to review your concerns/expectations with your Plastic Surgeon. Best of luck.Dr. B
