It seems like most dentists recommend bone grafting procedure for dental implants done after tooth extractions. However, I've heard from few dentists that bone grafting is unnecessary in most cases where molar tooth is in lower jaw. Bone can regrow and become firm in some cases. Which one it true?

It sounds like the dental implant is fine, but the healing abutment has fallen out. I would call your surgeon and have this screwed back in as soon as you can. The main reason for this is to keep the tissue from growing over the implant causing an unnecessary surgery to be needed....
