I've had an ugly lip all my life. I was made fun of as a kid. And I've always wanted to do something about it. I tried Restylane but that lasted only a few days before it shifted and then dissolved. Is there anything permanent that can be done?
Answer: Surgical Lip lift A possible procedure to consider that would provide a more permanent result would be a surgical lip lift. The procedure gives the upper lip a lighter and more defined appearance, while restoring a more youthful facial balance around the mouth. Typically, the Incisions are hidden under the base of the nose in a natural crease and become nearly imperceptible after a few months. The initial healing period is generally 1-2 weeks, but you will be able to enjoy the results around 2-3 months. Going forward, I would recommend you to complete multiple in office consultations with board certified facial plastic surgeons to discuss your aesthetic goals. This way, they can better assess your face and create an ideal treatment plan for you. Best of luck, Kian Karimi MD, FACS

Answer: Lip Augmentation Candidate -- Injectable Fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Volbella), Fat Grafting to Lips, NovaThreads for Lift I would highly recommend getting a formal evaluation with and treatment from a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist and expert in facial sculpting. Technique is the key to a successful lip augmentation with fillers, so you'll want to see someone meticulous. An experienced physician will be able to determine which filler, how much filler, and which technique will give you the subtle result you're looking for. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Lip implant Thank you for your question. A lip implant would be a permanent option. They are silicone and can be placed in less than an hour, as well as removed easily should you not like the outcome.

Answer: Lip lift The technique I recommend is a lip lift. A lip lift does 4 things: shortens the distance between your nose and upper lip, increases the mucosa of the upper lip, increases the incisor show and pulls up the corners. The procedure takes about 1 hour to perform under local anesthesia and costs $3,000. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.
