Answer: Recommend adding a small amount of filler to minimize the appearance of the indent Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started. Answer: Subcison Works Well For Elevating All Kinds Of Indented Scars In All Skin Types I have been performing subcision since 1995 for elevating and smoothing all kinds of indented (atrophic) scars--whether caused by injury, surgery, acne or Infections (like chickenpox)--in all skin types. Subcision has a several decades' long proven track record for safety and efficacy. Revision surgery, particularly in areas such as this that are subject to a good deal of static tension runs the risk for the subsequent development of stretch scars and tram track stitch marks. The hard science to support the use of fraxel lasers, as well as so many of the other expensive so-called light and energybased "bells and whistles" gizmos so heavily marketed and touted on Dr. Instagram, lags woefully behind the hype. So, 'buyer beware" when considering any of these. You would be wise to consult with a board certified cosmetic dermatolgist and best of luck.
