I am 4.5 weeks PO and have had good healing. All incisions are closed. I am on precautionary antibiotics for small area of "trapped pus" at an incision but feeling ok overall. No seeping or wound issues. When is it safe to resume yoga practice? It involves a lot of arm stretching and usw of pectoral strength so I'm a bit nervous. Thanks for your time.
Answer: Yoga and Other Actvities a Month Post Breast Reduction Most patients resume normal activity by two weeks however full activity, lifting, sports, and no restrictions is safer at 6 weeks. Some discomfort, swelling and discoloration of the #breasts are to be expected for several weeks. Usually, our patients return to almost normal activity within two weeks. The scars at the incision lines typically become reddish and a few weeks after surgery are raised and firm. After a number of months they become pale and soft. After 8-12 months, the scars are relatively inconspicuous. The #nipples and some areas of the skin may be numb or sensitive after surgery. Sensation may return within a few weeks or months, but may be diminished or overly sensitive.Perhaps these guidelines will help:You make take gentle walks within a few days following your #surgery. Light #activity may be started 7-10 days after surgery. You should avoid heavy lifting and strenuous #activity for six weeks. You may, however, do normal activities at any time if they cause no pain or discomfort. #Aerobic exercise such as running, will raise your blood pressure, which could cause late bleeding and harm your result.Let your body tell you what you can or cannot do. Once you begin #exercising again, start gently and let your body tell you what it can tolerate. Don’t rush it because it may require the full 6 weeks before you can do any upper body work-outs, yoga, etc.

Answer: Resume yoga after Breast Reduction? Congratulations on having undergone the breast reduction surgery; this operation tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. Every patient's recovery varies after surgical procedures; your plastic surgeon will be in the best position to guide you. Generally speaking, my patients begin walking and/or lower body exercise within one to 2 weeks after breast reduction surgery. More vigorous activity such as heavy lifting or aerobic activity usually begins 4 to 6 weeks postoperatively. When it comes to returning to yoga, I would suggest that you very gradually return to upper body and chest related exercises (as you carefully listen to your body). I hope this helps.

Answer: Yoga Thank you for your question. Although you are feeling good after your surgery, I would not push it. This is something that you should discuss with your surgeon, but I advise that my patients not perform any rigorous exercise for at least six weeks following their breast reduction procedure. All the best,Dr. ResultsMiami, FL
