I am a 51 yr old female with rosacea in the nose/check area, small veins near the surface in the under eye area and some melasma. I've read about great results for these issues with the Excel V laser. Assuming I have a skilled doctor and the appropriate amount of treatments (2-3), how long can I expect the results to last?
Answer: Improving Rosacea with Clear + Brilliant, peels and VBeam/Yellow lasers, Botox/Xeomin/Dysport This can vary due to the severity of Rosacea and keep in mind, Rosacea needs a combination approach for improvement. I recommend getting a following up with a cosmetic dermatologist. For rosacea, I like a combination using lasers (ProYellow, Pulsed Dye/Vbeam, Excel V, Clear + Brilliant), peels and botox to the cheeks. This makes dramatic changes in color and symptoms. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Based on your description, you sound like the perfect candidate for Excel V. These treatments will not cure the rosacea, but will rather minimize its effects. You can plan on doing a series once a year to year and a half. It is also important to use appropriate skin care products at home to complement the laser treatments and support your skin's health. Answer: Excel V Your skin creates new blood vessels over time and most patients will have an Excel V treatment performed for overall redness, every 2 years or so. However, for small, distinctive blood vessels, they may go away & stay away. For melasma, one has to use maintenance, medicated creams & sunscreen with zinc to prevent flares.

Answer: Duration of Effect of Excel V for Rosacea Excel V is an outstanding laser for most all things vascular. Global redness associated with Rosacea is a common reason for scheduling treatment with the Excel V. In our clinic we perform a series of 3 treatments usually one month apart leading to nice outcomes. Depending on one's genetic tendencies associated with their Rosacea, a patient will benefit from touch up treatments in 1-3 years. Occasionally a patient will best benefit from a complete series of 3 treatments every 1- 3 years if the Rosacea is very severe.I hope this is helpful.Steven L. Greene MD

Answer: Maintenance is the key Whenever I council my patients about rosacea treatments, I discuss the need for daily SPF with a zinc based sunscreen, trigger avoidance (hot temperatures, hot liquids, red wine, sun protection etc) and the need for maintenance treatments. Maintenance treatments can be annual, semi annual or whatever your particular rosacea needs, its usually a single treatment session here and there. The better you are at protection and trigger avoidance, the longer results should last. You mention melasma...be sure to discuss this with your treating physician in regards to how the excel v may affect it.
