Can the Clear and Brilliant laser burn you?

Question

I tried the Clear and Brilliant laser treatment 2 weeks ago. I have a very light brown 1.5 inch mark in the perfect shape of a rectangle extending from my upper lip out. I have had 2 friends say they see it as well. I went back and complained. They said they didn't see the mark but prescribed a lightening cream. They also said it was impossible for the clear and brilliant to do this and it wouldn't be in that shape. Well, The laser head is in the shape of my mark so :( looking for answers.

Clear + Brilliant shouldn't burn the skin. It is very low energy low density.  I suggest comparing the before and after photos.  In the years I have had this device I have never seen burns or hyperpigmentation.   I suggest going to an expert. Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question.  All lasers generate heat and can theoretically burn you if too much heat is generated in one location.  The Clear and Brilliant uses a roller system which makes it very difficult to burn someone as the laser is not firing unless the handpiece is moving at an even pace and in constant contact with the skin.  Theoretically, if you continually treated the same area over and over again instead of the typical 2 passes in each direction, it may be possible to burn someone.  Please follow up with your board certified Dermatologist for further evaluation and management.  Regards, Dr. Matt Elias
