Is it safe to wear an underwire bra after a breast augmentation?

I don't have my patients wear wire in their bras for 2 to 3 months because I don't want the implant to be pushed into a new position.  Wearing wire is not the problem for the most part but wire push up bras are a potential to give you problems later on.  I tell patients wear what is comfortable and allow gravity to allow your implant to settle into its final position.

I typically tell my patients not to wear an underwire bra until six weeks after their surgery. If your incision is under your breast fold your sensation over the scar is not fully present, so the wire can dig into your incision.  I would ask for clarification from your surgeon again about the bras. When in doubt always stick to your plastic surgeon's recommendation. They know you best and I am sure they have their reasons for advising you to not wear the underwire bras.  Good luck.
