Safe to Undergo Ptosis Surgery in India?

Ptosis surgery is commonly performed in India.  There are numerous superb fellowship trained oculoplastic surgeons in India.

I have had the opportunity (along with Dr Lucarelli) to attend Oculoplastic and Ophthalmology meetings in India.  We have met and closely interacted with many of the oculoplastic surgeons there.

At Sankara Nethralya, in Chennai,  Dr. Shubhra Goel is excellent.  I know her very well.

Similarly, in Madurai, at the Aravind Eye Hospital Dr. Usha Kim has a stellar reputation.

Both of these surgeons not only are fellowship-trained, they also teach residents and fellows.

To get your best result in eyelid ptosis surgery, it will be well worth your time and effort to find an experienced oculoplastic surgeon.  Good luck!

The most important thing is to know who will be doing your surgery and that they are properly trained.  There are United States and European trained oculoplastic surgeons practicing in India.  Your best bet is to seek one of these individuals out.  Don't settle for a general surgeon or eye surgeon who is also doing eyelid surgery. Experience, and training very much do matter.  If you are having difficulty finding such an individual, a United States trained pediatric ophthalmologist should be well trained in performing ptosis surgery.

While there are excellent surgeons in India, you need to ensure that you choose the correct one.  Appropriate postoperative care and proper planning are 2 of the most factors when considering international surgery.
