How soon can I use red light therapy on my breasts after augmentation revision surgery? (Photo)

Question

I’ve heard conflicting advise and wanted to go straight to the professionals with the question. How soon after surgery can I use red light/infared light on my breasts? I have a panel (see photo). What regimen do you recommend?

Dear Nicole805,

I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors.
It is best, however, that you follow your plastic surgeon's advice on post operative care management for a smooth and faster healing and recovery.

In my experience, I would not start red or infrared light over the breasts until your revision surgeon has cleared you and the incisions are fully sealed. The key issue is your exact healing, scar quality, implant pocket work, and whether there is any redness, drainage, swelling, or tenderness.
I would avoid heat, pressure, or close contact on fresh scars. If your surgeon approves it, start very conservatively with short sessions at a safe distance and stop if warmth, pain, or redness increases. Because revision cases vary, your own surgeon should set the timing and regimen.

Typically red light therapy on scars will begin after 2 weeks. However, some may begin as early as one week post op. It is typically employed 3 days a week for at least one month after completion of the initial inflammatory phase of healing.
