You can absolutely have a gastric sleeve. Be sure you are making an informed decision after considering the risks, benefits, and alternatives. There is no reason to deny a patient bariatric surgery with a BMI > 35 who has been unsuccessful with non-surgical options. Even if they don't have diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, etc.

In your case i think that you are a good candidate to do the gastric sleeve or other option. Patients frequently tell me their story and then ask if they are a candidate for weight loss surgery; as if I am the one holding the keys to their health and happiness.  Yes, of course there are some guidelines... I wouldn't operate on someone who was 20 pounds overweight.  But if your BMI is above 30, and you WANT to lose weight and have tried everything else, and are willing to accept the risks of the surgery; they who are we as surgeons to turn you away?Your BMI is above 35.  Of course you can have the surgery!
