Can rubbing your face (a month after Botox) cause temporary spasms?

I got my first Botox treatment a month ago and was pretty pleased with the results. A week or so ago, when I was washing my face, I noticed my eyebrows sort of spasmed and moved close together looking as though I was making a sad concerned face, but I wasn't. Now, every time I rub my forehead that happens. I don't know why it's happening or what to do! Is this normal??

People occasionally feel spasms after botox as new neuromuscular recruitment occurs. They should be very brief and do not generally present as problematic for most patients.

Botox does not cause muscle spasms and in fact it is used to treat them. That being said, it is possible for certain muscle groups near Botox treated areas to act differently after treatment. I would see your injector first, who I certainly hope is only a board-certified fellowship trained MD with experience in facial plastic surgery. Botox is actually used to treat muscle spasms.  It is highly unlikely that your muscle spasms are due to Botox treatment done one month ago.  If problem persists, I recommend that you consult with a neurologist for a proper evaluation.

Botox is a fabulous procedure as you described.  It does not cause facial spasms, especially not one month later.  In fact, Botox is used to treat facial spasms and is very effective with this.  Please consult a neurologist to evaluate the spasms.  Best, Dr. Green

A month after treatment, rubbing your face should have no consequences.  Keep in mind that Botox has a temporary effect on the musculature.

It is highly unlikely that this is related to the treatment with botox you have had in the past. Most likely, while rubbing the forehead you're stimulating or irritating a nerve in the area that's causing contraction of the muscles. Good luck for New York City
