Is numbness in the breast common after a breast lift with underarm liposuction?

I had a breast lift/reduction with liposuction of my sides just under my arms 8 weeks ago. I have no feeling on the outside third of both breasts and pain still under my arms. Is this common with the underarm lipo and if so how long can I expect it might take for the feeling to return to this part of my breasts. The rest of the breast has normal feeling with no pain including the nipples.

It is very numb to still be numb 8 weeks after a breast lift with liposuction under the arms.  I usually tell patients that the sensation can take 6 months to return.  Best of luck!

Interference with sensory nerves resulting in numbness and potentially pain is not uncommon after breast reductions. Liposuction by itself is less likely to produce these issues. These conditions can be permanent, but may improve significantly up to a year. Best wishes.

It is not unusual to have some numbness in the areas that you have described following a breast lift and underarm liposuction.  In most cases, much of this numbness will resolve, however it may take 6 to 12 months for all for the numbness to resolve.  Gentle massage may help speed this process.  Best wishes, Dr. Lepore.
