When looking at different technologies, there are 3 basic questions that need to be answered to decipher the difference between competitors. Here is my opinion when it comes to micro-needling radio-frequency devices. 1. Does the technology work? Micro-needling/MN works to improve skin gradually. Adding radio-frequency/RF to micro-needling was an ingenious improvement. Some MN RF systems have better results, because their science and engineering is more advanced and sophisticated, allowing the physician to deliver better treatments. The Vivace has many such advanced features. Vivace is the first device to have 1 and 2 MHz both. Other devices either are 1 or 2 MHz but not both. Vivace needle depth is not fixed but variable and penetration can be customized to the patient's skin.Other devices have preset needle depth. Vivace needles come in insulated as well as non-insulated tips allowing customization for sensitive skin vs. problematic skin like acne scars. 2. Does it hurt? One of the determining factors in the comfort level with the skin is the topical numbing cream used to numb the skin. Vivace comes with its own proprietary topical numbing cream that is superior to other creams making the treatment comfortable. Another factor is the type of motor used for the mechanical deliver of micro-injuries. For example solenoid "snap" motors like Infini, and hydraulic motors results in delivery of a painful pulse. Vivace is the first device to use a robotic micro-motor to more gently delivers the pulse comfortably eliminating pain. 3. Does it have downtime? Vivace needles are gold coated which prevent skin metal allergies caused with other systems. Metal allergy causes inflammation increases the downtime. Finally Vivace circuit board is an advanced Chevron circuit which allows for even delivery of the radio-frequency preventing hot spots during treatment would increase pain and downtime.
