I've attached pictures of my before and after. Theres a little bit of unevenness between arms and I wondering if it's because of a botched job and it looks bad or it's just because I'm more defined/stronger on one side of my body (due to training imbalances). It only looks weird when I flex. I guess my question is, is it botched does it look weird? If I get leaner will it look more proportional? Is there anyway to surgically reverse this with minimal risk/damage.

Answer: Arm liposuction results To make an accurate assessment on the outcome of any plastic surgery procedure, we generally will need to see a complete set of proper before and after pictures. If you don’t have a complete set of proper before and after pictures and ask your surgeon to forward the pictures they took.My best guess is that your surgeon attempted at a technique called high definition a.k.a. Etching type Liposuction. With this technique, more fat is removed at the intersection between muscle bellies, and other words the procedure purposely leaves the fat distribution uneven.I’m not at all a big fan of this type of Liposuction because it’s almost impossible to correct and it almost always looks unnatural.Correcting poorly down Liposuction is many times more difficult than doing primary Liposuction. Delivering consistent quality Liposuction is by far more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who approach mastering this procedure is quite small. Most plastic surgeons are not as good as Liposuction as they think.I cannot emphasize enough, the importance of properly vetting providers and having multiple in person consultations before selecting this procedure, which is more or less permanent and irreversible. To get an accurate assessment, you need an in person consultation with an examination. There may be room for improvements, but recognize that any attempts at doing revision work can easily make things worse if you’re not in the hands of the right provider.Finding the right plastic surgeon for this kind of work is very difficult. Most people do not do a very good job at provider selection. To find the right provider, suggest patient start the process by making a list of surgeons in your community who seem to have extensive Liposuction experience with a track record of doing quality arm liposuction.Doing lots of liposuction of the abdomen does not make you good at doing liposuction of the arms. Next schedule in person consultations with each of these providers.Do not rely on the virtual consultations.Make sure you consult with the provider who’s going to do your operation. If you’re consulting with the sales person, then you should get up and leave. During each consultation as each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar looking arms as your own.Highly experienced surgeons should’ve access 100 or preferably thousands of before and after pictures.Being shown a handful of pre-selected representing the very best results of providers career may be insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of that provider.Take careful notes during each consultation, especially regarding the quality and quantity of the before, and after pictures shown.Follow through with all scheduled consultations before considering selecting a provider.Continue having consultations until you feel quite certain you found somebody who was truly exceptional at this kind of work. The failure of selecting providers properly can lead to permanent disfigurement.Being bored certified in plastic surgery does not mean somebody knows how to do liposuction well. Finding the right provider is time-consuming, and requires having multiple in person consultations.Best,Mats Hagstrom MD
