Hi AnnaCastelli, thank you for your question regarding removing silicone from the tear trough region. This is a difficult area to remove silicone. I believe it is more important to remove the silicone than leave the silicone in place. There are three ways to remove the silicone, all require an incision, as silicone suction would be too dangerous in this area. There are three types of incisions. 1) One method is the subcilliary approach where an incision is placed underneath the eyelashes and the silicone is removed directly by dissecting downward under the skin. 2) Another approach is to make an incision in the tear trough and remove the silicone like a crescent shaped incision. 3) The third alternative is making an incision inside the lower eyelid (in the red part or conjunctiva) and removing the silicone, scar tissue, and associated fat directly. I hope that I have answered your questions removing silicone from the tear trough or under the eyes. Before you make any decisions regarding silicone removal from the tear trough, I would suggest you seek consultation with a silicone removal expert. Please seek an experienced, board-certified, plastic surgeon. Travel out of state if you must to find such a silicone removal expert.
