The average beard, assuming we work just below the jawline, can donate 1800 to 2200 grafts total. In your case, your beard donor area appears incredibly dense, so I anticipate easily twice that number.
Hello and thank you for your question. From what I can tell from your photo I would say about 2000 grafts could be used. I highly recommend a in person consultation for a more accurate assessment. Best wishes to you.Dr. T
Beard extraction for placement in to the head is becoming more common, especially for those with high graft count demands. The total number of grafts that can be safely extracted prior to over harvesting the beard depends on the natural density and size of the beard.I feel that at any one time, about 1000 to a maximum of 1500 can be safely extracted in those with higher beard densities. Lower density beards may be in the 500 to 1000 range. The maximal amount over multiple procedures may exceed 3000 prior to the appearance of depletion for dense beards.I have completed over 3000 beard extractions on single patients without signifiant appearance of depletion. To do it safely, several procedures separated by at least 6 months were required.
The beard contains at least 3000 follicular unit from under the chin to be used as a donor area which are mostly 1 hair each in the average person, but I have seen some with two hair groups. Beard hair, like scalp hair has a long anagen phase of its growth cycle and will grow long, but the texture is often different than scalp hair being more kinky.
