Question

Is it normal to experience pulling at the incision after breast augmentation? (See photo you can see the pulling on my rib cage) I am 2 weeks post op. If I put my hands over my head, I feel pulling on my left breast but not my right. I do a lot of yoga, so I do not want this to heal wrong. Should I make a visit to my doctor?

Thanks for your question and photo.  This is not uncommon and will improve.  What you have is referred to as Mondor's syndrome; it sounds worse than it is! Basically, there is some superficial clotting/fibrosis of a very small vein or lymphatic that was cut when the incision was made.  This is self limited, and will improve.  Sometimes scar massage and stretching will accelerate the resolution. Thank you for your question and congratulations on your surgery.  The soreness, pulling feeling is typically normal after surgery.  I would suggest giving it a bit more time for swelling to come on down and for things to settle.  If your still very concerned then I would suggest reaching out to your surgeon and following their instructions.  Best of luck to you.

The sensation of pulling at the incision is normal at this stage of recovery.  Raising your arms will put undue stress on the sutures. As swelling dissipates, the pulling sensation will cease. Follow your certified plastic surgeon's post operative protocols. It is not uncommon to feel some tension on the incision especially at the T junction after breast augmentation. This is due to the pulled skin after the addition of implants into the tissue and should be temporarily felt.

Thank you for your question. What you are experiencing is completely normal after surgery. The scar band will take about 3 months to smooth out. It will take about a year for that area to feel completely normal. Best of luck with your recovery.
