Hi there, Are there any tips for reducing my chances of getting a seroma forming after tt surgery? I will be getting a revision in May and want to be prepared for the best outcome, especially when my surgeon puts in the hard work to correct after first surgery. I had a seroma form about week 2 after surgery last time. Thanks so much, appreciate your time and shared knowledge
Answer: Tummy tuck Seromas do occur after a tummy tuck regardless of the attempts to prevent them. Each surgeon has a different strategy or philosophy when it comes to seroma formation. Go with a respected surgeon and just realize that a seroma might happen regardless.

Answer: How to reduce the chance of getting a seroma at tummy tuck? There are a few ways you can help to prevent getting a seroma after a tummy tuck: - First, make sure you follow all of your surgeon's instructions for post-operative care. This will help to ensure that your incisions are healing properly and will help to reduce the risk of infection. - Second, try to avoid any strenuous activity or exercise for at least the first few weeks after your surgery. This will help to prevent any additional bleeding or swelling in the area. - Third, make sure you keep an eye on your incisions and report any changes to your surgeon right away. If you notice any redness, swelling, or drainage from the incisions, please contact your surgeon right away. These could be signs of infection which could lead to a seroma. Most importantly Choose a experienced, Consultant plastic surgeon to perform your procedure By following these guidelines, you can help to reduce your risk of developing a seroma after a tummy tuck.

Answer: Postoperative protcol Dear Nurturing79905, I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors. It is best, however, that you follow your plastic surgeon's advice on post operative care management for a smooth and faster healing and recovery. Answer: Revision Tummy tuck and seroma Both surgical technique and close follow up are required to avoid a postop seroma. The use of a drain, or two, compression garment worn until after all the swelling subsided (3-4 weeks) and serial follow ups to immediately drain any excess fluid that appears. Best wishes Dr. Taranow
