Gums bleeding after teeth whitening! Is this permanent damage? (Photo)

Bleaching gel can cause burning sensation to the gum, and in some instances cause the gum to blanch, give it a white appearance. In most cases it will go away within 2 to 7 days. rubbing the gum with a lubricant such as vasoline will help.If the sensation or the damage on the gums do not subside within that period, I advise you to see your dentist for further treatment.As a rule, do not put too much bleaching gel in your take home splints, and if you feel sensitivity within a minute do not continue the bleaching teeth process, stop! call your dentist.

Dont worry, this will resolve.  May take 7-10 days to fully resolve.  I would recommend salt water rinses daily for 1 week.   If it does not get better ( which i am sure it will)  go back to the dentist for evaluation

Paige,    Sounds like those gums of yours are pretty upset about the gel--you're right in that putting too much on will burn them. While they're healing they will be more sensitive and easier to traumatize. Think if you burned your hand and you had an ulcerated area; it'll be sensitive and weaker than the surrounding skin until it's allowed to heal.      Right now the easiest and best solution is good old fashioned salt water rinses. Take a warm (NOT hot) coffee mug of water and dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of salt in it (ideally sea salt, but table salt is helpful too). Gently rinse with the salt water frequently throughout the day. You'll find it to be soothing and it speeds up gum healing dramatically.     In the future, use a tiny dot of whitening gel on the part of the tray that will touch the front of each tooth. Those trays are custom fitted so there is not much room for anything in them, which means a little dot of gel spreads out and touches the whole tooth. Once you place the trays in your mouth, take a wet washcloth and wipe away any excess that has squeezed out and touched the gums. This not only protects you from a repeat burn, but it'll make your bleaching gel last for a much longer time and you'll get many more uses out of it. You can also wear them for a shorter amount of time if you experience tooth or gum sensitivity. Most effect happens in the first 30 min. The next 1.5 hours is helpful, but if it's uncomfortable you can do shorter rounds of bleaching. Rinse! Rinse! Rinse!
