How will veins by my nipples be affected during a breast lift?

So I have a Benelli lift and implants scheduled soon and I forgot to ask my surgeon about this last time I saw him. I have several very large veins running right through my nipple. Obviously in any surgery you're cutting into veins but if these are cut and that area of skin removed, how on earth could it NOT affect the blood supply going to my nipple? I guess I'm just curious how normal blood supply is even possible under these circumstances?

Cutting veins will cause no problem in healing. Your tissues get its blood supply from arteries bringing good oxygen to the tissues. Veins take the used up oxygen blood away from the tissues back to the heart and lungs. You have plenty of both veins and arteries.Dr. Ted Eisenberg, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Author

Thank you for your questions. This is a very good question. The veins you see through the nipple are superficial veins that carry blood away from the nipple and back to the heart. These can and often are affected by incisions around the areola when moving the nipple. However, the most important vessels are the deep arteries and veins coming through the breast tissue underneath the nipple and these are the ones preserved to allow blood flow into and out of the nipple after surgery during healing. This is why board certified plastic surgeons go through years of training to gain expertise in how to properly do these procedure to maintain blood flow and perform these operations safely. Make sure you see a plastic surgeon who is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.Best of luck!

It's a great question, but it's important to know that cutting through the superficial veins that you see under your breast skin will not affect the blood supply to your nipple. There deeper arteries and veins that will continue to give your nipple the blood flow that it requires to remain healthy. Of course careful technique on your surgeon's part is key.
