I have a surgical scar which has darkened over time, what procedure can be done to remove this scar ? Will scar revision completely hide this ?
Answer: A scar revision can be done followed by resurfacing lasers to help reduce reoccurrence of pigmentation Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started. Answer: Subcision For Elevating & Smoothing Indented Scars; Dermastamp Microneedling+Rx Pigment Lighteners For PIH The problem with scar revision surgery, aside from the expense and the post-treatment downtime, especially in areas subject to a great deal of static and/or dynamic muscular tension, is that it poses a significant risk for the subsequent development of stretch scars and even tram track stitch marks. Subcision, on the other hand, requires no scalpel cutting through the skin surface and therefore no need for stitches. What's more, subcision, which I have been performing since 1995, has a proven track record of safety and efficacy in all skin types. As for the skin darkening issue, this may be addressed by the use of professionally performed manual Dermastamp microneedling (no need for the added expense and risks for adverse reactions from RF microneedling) accompanied by the topical application of Rx lightening agents. You would be wise to consult with a board certified cosmetic dermatologist scar treatment specialist and best of luck.
