I agree with the other physicians that have already answered this question. The chances are extremely low unless it was nicked or cut or a suture wrapped around (or through) it. This would typically require much more than the standard force to remove it which then should increase the clinician's suspicion that something is wrong. Fortunately JP drains are designed to be visible on X-rays. If your surgeon is also suspicious they could order an X-ray to look for any retained JP drain.
Thanks for your question. It is highly unlikely that a JP drain would break when pulled. That being said, it is impossible to give a definitive answer without a formal physical examination. I suggest that you meet with your surgeon to discuss your concerns. Best of luck!
Thank you for your question. It would be very rare for a portion of a standard JP drain to break off during removal. The person who put the drain in is hopefully the same person who removed it and would be best equipped not only to answer this question but perhaps also discuss with you why you are concerned about this possibility.Good luck!
Really unlikely unless the drain was nicked/cut somewhere along the drain, making it weak where the drain distal to the nick could break off but this would leave a jagged end to the drain when pulled if it was looked at. Otherwise I would say it is nearly impossible for a drain to fracture on its on when its pulled.
It is rare for the JP to be broken unless it was tethered by a suture and snapped off by a strong external force. Inspect the JP drain once it’s pulled out.
Thank you for your question. This would be very unusual but certainly can happen. If this were to happen it would likely be from the drain was caught with a suture during closure. I personally always cut the drain at an angle so that at removal the end is still at an angle rather than straight confirming that the drain is completely out. If there is a concern ask your surgeon. Best Dr. L
It would be rare for the drain to snap. The person that removed the drain would be the best person to ask.
It is very unlikely that a drain would break when being pulled out. Your surgeon can help answer this question and if there is any suspicion about a part of the drain being left inside, an X-ray can quickly solve the question.
Dear Jenisadress, I'm sure there will be a general consensus/opinion here is the best thing to do is schedule a follow up visit with your PS for evaluation. You will need appropriate wound care for this issue. Good luck and hope this helps!
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately with your photos alone it is impossible to determine what might be going on. Please see your surgeon for an examination and to discuss your concerns. Best of luck!Sincerely,Dr. Michelle Spring
For aesthetic improvement, I would recommend a full tummy tuck to address your abdominal wall laxity as well as contour your flanks, and upper abdomen. Losing the 20 pounds and exercising prior to the tummy tuck would be prudent to achieve the best results possible. After healing, you could...
Separation of the muscles after tightening is unusual. Also if it did occur it probably would have caused excruciating pain. So it’s pretty unlikely. Depending on how long it has been since your procedure there could still be some swelling for a few months.
I appreciate your question. Santyl is a collagenase debridement ointment used under a doctor's supervision for wound care. In all wounds, there can be odors forming, but I cannot tell if it's the Santyl or the wound. I suggest a full assessment by your prescribing doctor. Good luck. Dr. ALDO
