I had Deviated septum surgery & my tonsils taken out at the same time over a 1.5 yr ago at the age of 25. Any suggestion?

Dear tflanagan1I think you would benefit from a thorough examination by a rhinoplasty surgeon. During the exam, both the static and dynamic functions of your nose can be assessed. If you have valve collapse, that can be determined and proper treatment plan formulated. If you have sleep apnea, and cant breath through your nose, nasal surgery to improve your breathing may be of significant help to you.

It's hard to know for sure without seeing you in person but what you describe sounds like nasal valve collapse. This can be improved by adding cartilage structure to the areas of the sidewall of the nose that are collapsing. You're essentially creating that effect by pulling on the skin around your nostrils. Seek a consultation with a rhinoplasty specialist who performs alot of nasal reconstruction. There is hope! A full examination of the internal and external portion of the nose as required by an ENT/ facial plastic surgeon to determine what the airway obstruction in the nose is caused from. There are many issues that can cause breathing obstruction of the nose, such as a broken nose, a deviated septum, chronic sinusitis, turbinate hypertrophy, internal valve collapse and external valve collapse,  and allergies. Each one of these are treated differently with either medications or surgery. If  you have failed medical therapy, consideration for surgical intervention can be entertained. Spreader grafts and alar  rim grafts are used for valve collapse upon inspiration.
