When's the best time of the year for teenagers to get a septoplastic surgery?

I've been planning/dreaming about having a septoplastic surgery when I turn 16(spring, 2016)to repair my deviated septum and to also correct my nose to become more aesthetically pleasing.However, with the concern of school, I don't necessarily want to arrive with black eyes and a brace.(I'm very self conscious and shy.)I'd imagine that summer and winter break are the busiest for this, so when should I plan to book an appointment in order to get a spot?And would I recover before school resumes?

Dear 6600SKWIt sounds like you want a septorhinoplasty. This procedure often involves repositioning of nasal bones. Recovery includes swelling and bruising around nose and eyes. I find that winter break is the best time for this procedure as you have adequate time to recover from surgery (around 10 days ) and you will be able to enjoy your summer with travel and outdoor activities. I would start 6 months prior to your desired date.

Thanks for your question. Our busiest times for rhinoplasty surgery are during winter break and at the beginning of the summer. Technically, patients can go back to work as soon as they feel up to it. They may feel a bit stuffy, but if their jobs don't put them in front of the public, it wouldn't be a problem. I usually take off the external splint and remove any external stitches at a week. Bruising around the eyes is possible, but usually it's faded by about 10-14 days. Your nose will be noticeably swollen for a couple of months following rhinoplasty surgery. If you wanted to have your surgery as soon as school let out, I'd be sure to get with a surgeon at least a month to six weeks in advance. Different practices will fill up more quickly than others, so it would never hurt to call around to some local offices and ask about their usual scheduling. Good luck!

Dear 6600skw, Septoplasty surgery is performed with minimal bruising and minimal downtime for recovery. You would need your parents authorization to have this procedure done until you reach the age of 18. Many patients who are college bound or in school will have rhinoplasty procedures done after the end of the school year at the beginning of summer vacation. Some students will have it done during school holidays (winter or Easter break)  it is dependent on their schedules. If you are planning a procedure during a holiday period then it is best to start consulting months in advance as holiday times are prone to book up early. Septoplasty is a procedure fixing the functional aspects of the nose and a septorhinoplasty procedure would address both function and aesthetics.
