I have a lot of excess skin in the abdominal area as a result of the weight in the belly I gained due to Cushing's disease. I carried the weight of a full term pregnant woman for at least 3 years before finally being diagnosed so that the tumor on my Pituitary gland could be removed by a Craniotomy. The Cushing's was controlled and I lost all the weight I gained from it but am left with a lot of hanging flesh . Do you think insurance would cover under these circumstances?

A panniculectomy can sometimes be covered by insurance, however you should contact your provider to see if this is true for you. Surgery is usually indicated once your BMI (body mass index) is less than 30.

Most insurance companies will cover a panniculectomy if there are medical reasons such as skin irritation, excessive skin hanging, etc. The only way to know is to have your plastic surgeon evaluate your skin condition and to call your insurance agent for more details. I have assisted patients with contacting their insurance companies when medical concerns are involved and many have benefitted from coverage. Be well.
