My dermatologist first prescribed me 5% minoxidil for a month and then10% minoxidil.I'm very scared to use it after reading onthe net that it's not advisable for women to go beyond 2%.What shall i do?He's the most renowned dermat in my city though with around 200-300 patients perday.Can i trust him?Andwhat will happen if i discontinue it after i see hair growth?I'm in the verybeginning phase of hairloss.Can my hairloss be due to having no periods at all?I get periods only after taking medicines. Hair loss in women can be caused by hormonal abnormalities. So it would be smart to consult your gynecologist to make sure your hormone levels are within the normal range. Minoxidil 5% is now commonly used for female patients. There is always the possibility of increased shedding of hair when first starting Minoxidil and upon its discontinuation. Laser therapy (LLLT) or PRP might also be something you want to consider as a non surgical treatment for hair loss.

Yes, women can use 10% minoxidil provided that they don't get facial hair with it which is a known side effect
